1.4031 Stainless Steel
All You Need to Know About Martensitic, Corrosion Resistant Stainless Steel X39Cr13, 1.4031, SS2321, ASTM 420
What is 1.4031 Stainless Steel Grade
The 1.4031-grade stainless steel is martensitic steel that can be used in quenched and tempered conditions. It can be used in several construction applications where moderate corrosion and abrasion resistance are required. When compared to 1.4028-grade stainless steel, 1.4031 is much more hardenable.
The 1.4031-grade stainless steel has the following properties:
- Moderate corrosion resistance
- Very good mechanical properties
- Good machinability
Why use 1.4031 Stainless Steel
First of all, the 1.4031- stainless steel grade comes with good machinability. Secondly, it shows good corrosion resistance in moderately corrosive environments. Due to the slightly higher Chromium content in its chemical composition, 1.4031 shows better resistance to corrosion when compared to 1.4028.
What is the chemical composition of 1.4031 stainless steel?
The chemical composition of 1.4031 stainless steel is:
1.4031 steel chemical element | % present |
---|---|
Carbon (C) [Max] | 0.36 to 0.42% |
Manganese (Mn) | ≤ 1.00% |
Silicon (Si) [Max] | 1.00% |
Chromium (Cr) | 12.5 to 14.5% |
Phosphorus (P) [Max] | 0.040% |
Sulphur (S) [Max] | ≤ 0.030% |
