What is Grade 1.4021 420 Stainless Steel (ASTM 420-SS2303)?
Grade 1.4021 420 stainless steel (ASTM 420-SS2303) is a hardenable martensitic steel with high tensile strength and good corrosion resistance. It was improved through the use of sulfur. Martensitic stainless steel is manufactured for thermal improvement and has high mechanical properties such as strength, ductility and machinability.

Why use stainless steel EN 1.4021 420 (ASTM 420-SS2303)?
By using stainless steel 1.4021 420, a steel with good machinability is obtained. Stainless steel also has good resistance to air, water vapor, fresh water, some alkaline solutions and other mildly aggressive chemicals.
However, it is not suitable for exposure to chloride or marine conditions.
Stainless steel 1.4021 420 can also be welded. Martensitic steel 1.4021 420 is easier to machine than conventional austenitic steel. The heat treatment condition of 1.4021 420 is QT 700 and it should be hot formed in the temperature range of 1100-800°C. The process is a slow cooling after hot forming.
