1.4542 Stainless Steel
All You Need to Know About Precipitation Hardening Stainless Steel X5CrNiCuNb16-4, 1.4542, 17-4PH According to EN 10088-3
What is 1.4542 Stainless Steel Grade
The 1.4542-grade stainless steel is a precipitation hardening stainless steel. These types of stainless steels contain chromium, nickel and has the optimum mix of properties of martenistic and austenitic stainless steel grades. The 1.4542 stainless steel grade gains high strength after heat treatment.
The 1.4542-grade stainless steel has the following properties:
- High tensile strength after heat treatment
- Moderate to good corrosion resistance
- Good machinability in the annealed condition
Why use 1.4542 Stainless Steel
The 1.4542- stainless steel grade showcases good corrosion resistance in a range of environments. The stainless steel grade also has good oxidation resistation. The biggest advantage of precipitation hardening steels such as the 1.4542 stainless steel grade is that they can be solution treated condition which is readily machinable.
