Creep-Resistant Steel: All You Need to Know About Creep-Resistant Steel, Creep-Resistant Steel Grades Available
What is Creep-Resistant Steel
Creep-resistant steel is a type of steel that is created to withstand constant load at high temperatures. Their microstructures have to be very stable, both in the wrought and in the welded states.
Creep, in steel, is a process in which a metal deforms before the yield stage is reached. While these steels are known for withstanding high temperatures, they are also resistant to hydrogen attack and corrosion by sulfur.
In ferritic steels, creep strength is acquired by alloying with elements like chromium and molybdenum. Vanadium and niobium can also be used to increase creep strength.
Creep-resistant steels are generally used in power plants due to the fact that they can withstand high temperatures for a long period of time.
What are the Applications of Creep-Resistant Steel
Creep-resistant steel has several applications. A few of them are:
- Boilers
- Turbines
- Steam lines
