1.4024 Stainless Steel
All You Need to Know About Chromium Martensitic Stainless Steel X15CR13, 1.4024, AISI 420, According to EN 10088-1
What is 1.4024 Stainless Steel Grade
The 1.4024-grade stainless steel is basic martensitic steel with slightly increased hardenability. The 1.4024 steel grade is mildly corrosion resistant and will stand up well against water and steam. Under the annealed conditions, the stainless steel can be hardened up to a maximum of 225 HB with a tensile strength of 750 N/mm².
The 1.4024-grade stainless steel has the following properties:
- Martensitic
- Basic corrosion resistance
- Good impact strength
Why use EN 1.4024 Stainless Steel
The 1.4024 stainless steel grade comes with good machinability. These are tough, draggy chips with heavy build-up. If you want to machine the 1.4024 steel in the annealed condition, it is definitely possible.
But the stainless steel tends to perform better in cold-drawn or heat-treated conditions.
The 1.4024 stainless steel is also weldable using the most common methods of welding. In the case of welding, it is advisable to preheat the alloy to avoid cracking. You can preheat it up to 177-204℃. And if you want to attain maximum ductility, post-weld annealing is recommended too.
What is the chemical composition of 1.4024 stainless steel
The chemical composition of 1.4024 stainless steel is:
