What is 1.4512 Stainless Steel Grade

The 1.4512-grade stainless steel is the most commonly used ferritic stainless steel. Another commonly used ferritic stainless steel grade, just like 1.4512, is 1.4016. Ferritic stainless steels are magnetic, non-heat-treatable steels. They contain a higher percentage of Chromium when compared to martensitic stainless steel grades.

The 1.4512-grade stainless steel has the following properties:

  1. Ferritic
  2. High corrosion resistance
  3. Low risk of sensitization


Why use EN 1.4512 Stainless Steel

The 1.4512 stainless steel grade has high corrosion resistance and will have a long life in demanding atmospheric conditions. 

The stainless steel grade also contains a certain percentage of Titanium due to which the steel is at lower sensitization risk. The presence of Titanium resists the occurrence of intergranular corrosion.

Materials made out of 1.4512 stainless steel grade can easily be worked on under elevated temperatures because of their heat-resistant properties. But unlike austenitic acid-resistant steel, the 1.4512 stainless steel is not resistant to many acids, bases, and salts.
