1.4016 Stainless Steel

All You Need to Know About Chromium Ferritic Stainless Steel X6CR17, 1.4016, AISI 430, H17, According to EN 10088-1

What is 1.4016 Stainless Steel Grade

The 1.4016-grade stainless steel, similar to 1.4512, is a ferritic stainless steel grade. This steel grade comes with good corrosion resistance, good formability, and good ductility. The 1.4016 is plain Chromium stainless steel which is non-hardenable.

The 1.4016-grade stainless steel has the following properties:

  1. Good corrosion resistance
  2. Resistant to nitric attack
  3. Unsuitable for welding

Why use EN 1.4016 Stainless Steel

The main point is that the 1.4016 stainless steel belongs to the economical stainless steel category. And it is resistant to basic corrosive environments and to even some chemicals in low concentrations.

The resistance to acids in food, water, steam, and alcohol makes it highly suitable for making food and household products. Its resistance to nitric acid makes it well suited for use in applications.

Moreover, the ferritic nature of the 1.4016-grade stainless steel makes it resistant to the effects of stress corrosion cracking, which is a form of corrosion most of the conventional austenitic stainless steels are susceptible to.

What is the chemical composition of 1.4016 stainless steel?

The chemical composition of 1.4016 stainless steel is:

1.4016 steel chemical element % present
Carbon [Max] 0.08%
Manganese (Mn) [Max] ≤1.50%
