1.4005 Stainless Steel
All You Need to Know About Stainless Steel with the Highest Machinability X12CRS13, 1.4005, AISI 416, According to EN 10088-3
What is 1.4005 Stainless Steel Grade
The 1.4005-grade stainless steel has the highest machinability amongst all the stainless steel grades. The machinability of the 1.4005-grade stainless steel is enhanced with the addition of Phosphorus and Sulphur. The steel is essentially 1.4006 stainless steel to which Sulphur has been added to increase the hardness.
The 1.4005-grade stainless steel has the following properties:
- High machinability
- High hardness
- Low corrosion resistance
Why use EN 1.4005 Stainless Steel
The 1.4005-grade stainless steel is used in unhardened, hardened, or highly tempered conditions because of its easy availability and low cost. This steel is particularly used as shaft material.
This steel grade can also show good corrosion resistance in the hardened condition with a smooth surface finish.
What is the chemical composition of 1.4005 stainless steel?
The chemical composition of 1.4005 stainless steel is:
|1.4005 steel chemical element||% present|
|Carbon (C)||0.06 to 0.15%|
|Chromium (Cr)||12.00 to 14.00%|
|Phosphorus (P) [Max]||0.040%|
